Euroleague recap rounds 7 & 8!

After the double round (7th and 8th) of this week CSKA Moscow left the solitary first place with the home defeat against Fenerbahce for the Friday’s big match. At Megasport Arena was necessary an overtime to decide the result and, after a very thriller last minute, a miracle tap in by Melli gave the victory to Obradovic team. Overtime smiled to turkish in Russia but was fatal on Wednesday against Olympiacos, that with also the easy home victory against Crvena Zvezda reached CSKA at first place with 6-2 record.

Behind the two leaders a group of five teams with 5-3 records composed by Real Madrid, Fenerbahce, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Panathinaikos and Khimki Moscow, that with last two defeats left the first position and now is involved inside the fight.

About this group team which seem inside best period is Panathinaikos, running with three consecutive victories, included two away, and generally with a good record, considering the very hard program of first eight games, with also some regrets about controversial defeat at Baskonia home.

Real Madrid, next opponents of Calathes and co. Friday 24/11 in OAKA, back to victory with Malaga after three consecutive defeats in Euroleague, with the “clasico” for Spanish League in the middle, last of which a very terrible one with Baskonia. And problems are not finished for coach Laso because, despite oxigen of last large victory, injuries don’t give quiet to spanish roster after the stop of Randolph for 6-8 weeks in addition of Kuzmic, Llull and Ayon.

Having already write about Fenerbahce and Khimki, Maccabi Tel Aviv close this mini group taking advantage from a not difficult program, remedying with a good victory in Russia against Bartzokas’s team the bad defeat at home with Anadolu Efes.

Fifty percent record (4-4) for Zalgiris Kaunas, collapsed at home against Baskonia after the thriller victory in Malaga with the buzzer beater of Ulanovas at the end of overtime, and for Brose Bamberg, author of a huge comeback against Barcelona from -26 at the end of 1st quarter to victory, paid in Milano above all on last ten minutes (28-11 partial score for the Pianigiani’s team). Spanish and italians open the second mini group of the ranking with 3-5 record that included also Baskonia and Valencia.

Back of Curtis Jerrels gave huge oxigen to Armani Exchange Milano, which with two consecutive victories (double overtime in Valencia and with a impressive last quarter at home with Bamberg) left the last position and, temporarily, hunted away ghosts of another european season already without ambitions. Baskonia, with three victories of last four, continue the climb of ranking, Barcelona still searching continuity and Valencia, after a good start, seems to have fallen into crisis with four consecutive defeats, some of these very painful.

Close the ranking with 2-4 record Anadolu Efes, stopped by Panathinaikos after two great victories in Barcelona and Tel Aviv which had remedied to a tragic start, and Crvena Zvezda, which living the exaclty situation of Valencia with four consecutive defeats.

Next round (23-24/11) the most interesting game will be for sure Panathinaikos-Real Madrid, immediately followed by Milano-Olympiacos, Barcelona-Maccabi Tel Aviv and Zalgiris Kaunas-Anadolu Efes. Favorable prediction for CSKA at Malaga and for Fenerbahce with Khimki, uncertain games could be Bamberg-Valencia and Crvena Zvezda-Baskonia.
